UPDATE: Nintendo of America has finally published this Donkey Kong Country series trailer (above), with an additional few seconds of footage featuring the Donkey Kong Land games available on the Game Boy application for Nintendo Switch Online subscribers.
Original Story (December 2nd, 2024): This has turned out to be an incredible time for Donkey Kong fans, with milestones like Donkey Kong Country’s 30th anniversary, the December 11 opening of the Donkey Kong Country expansion at Super Nintendo World (in Osaka, Japan), and January’s upcoming release of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD.
Now, Nintendo is keeping the momentum alive, releasing a series overview of the Donkey Kong Country games, spanning the SNES originals by Rare and the sequels by Retro Studios. Starting in January, all five titles will be available on the Nintendo Switch, making it a thrilling time for the Donkey Kong universe!
The spotlight on the Rare-era Donkey Kong Country games is notable, with stunning widescreen shots and creative sprite animations not seen before from Nintendo. Additionally, the trailer features new footage of Donkey Kong Country Returns HD which reveals some visual upgrades, with enhanced lighting and graphical details.
Underwhelming Port?
Still, per a new video from GameXplain, the upcoming port of DKCR is still not quite that impressive graphically. Watch their breakdown on the new graphical updates (below).
We also got to see a level previously exclusive to the 3DS port of DKCR, now in glorious 1080p.
Donkey Kong Country Returns HD releases January 16th, 2025 exclusively for Nintendo Switch. Stay tuned to NintendoUp for more on the game closer to release.
The Donkey Kong Country SNES trilogy is available now on Nintendo Online, along with two of the three Donkey Kong Land games which just released last week on the GameBoy application for NSO subscribers.
