In our original video review (above, NSFW), we complained a lot about the Nintendo Alarmo.
Originally, there was no way to set multiple alarms or even preview alarms (yeah, wow). Additionally, the sleepy sounds were basically pointless, and you couldn’t view the “MAC address of the unit even when not connected to the Internet.” …Okay, that last thing was a non-issue.
Now, however, some of the problems facing the Nintendo Alarmo have been fixed in Version 3.0.0.
For instance, you can now set an alarm for each day of the week (which is improved, but still not good enough since I’d like to set unlimited alarms freely). What’s more, the sleepy sounds can now be enjoyed for up to 60 minutes (why not even longer?). Furthermore, and I refuse to give Nintendo credit for this, you can now preview alarms. This is all stuff that should have been there from the beginning, and while they are welcome improvements, they are half measures.
No more half measures, Nintendo.
Per the patch notes:
– You can now set the alarm ON/OFF, alarm time, and alarm mode for each day of the week.
– You can now set the playback time of the Sleepy Sounds sound.
– You can set this in 1-minute increments from 1 minute to 60 minutes.
– A preview will now play on the alarm scene selection screen.
– Improved the stability of determining whether the good night sound will play.
– Even if the good night sound has already played, you can now play it again by setting the good night sound.
– You can now set the screen brightness to a darker setting.
– You can now check the MAC address of the unit even when not connected to the Internet.
– Fixed several issues and improved operational stability and usability.
Check This Out: Nintendo recently added Super Mario Bros. alarms to the device (for MAR10 day), which we tested out below.
For those wondering, Nintendo Alarmo is still not worth $100 USD. These updates are nice to have, but they still contain baffling limitations which should be addressed.
If you can somehow pick up the device for $50 USD or less, then it’s…maybe worth it. Maybe. That being said, with every new update, the device becomes more appealing. So keep them coming.
