Digital Foundry are the guys who like to dive deep into the nitty-gritty of technical specs and what they could mean. Today, the team uploaded a YouTube video discussing the Switch 2 motherboard leak, and what it could tell about the power of the console. You can watch the video above.

Based on the Switch 2 motherboard, the team doesn’t expect PS4 Pro levels of performance out of the console, but rather PS4 levels.
DF speculates that the console will likely support the entire library of PS4 games, though potentially at a slightly reduced native resolution. However, they emphasize that this reduction is unlikely to be an issue, thanks to Nvidia’s DLSS technology, which provides additional upscaling.
Additionally, there is speculation that the Nvidia SoC in question utilizes Samsung’s 8nm process, which Digital Foundry (DF) notes isn’t especially energy-efficient. Considering the relatively compact battery compartment in the Switch 2, this could position it at a minor disadvantage in terms of efficiency compared to devices like the Steam Deck.
Nevertheless, it’s worth noting that the Switch 2, much like the original Switch, is a dedicated platform. This fixed hardware environment could mitigate potential concerns about the SoC’s efficiency.
Another crucial factor is the T239 processor, which DF previously explored in detail. This processor has been custom-designed for the Switch 2 through collaboration between Nvidia and Nintendo, marking a departure from the current Switch, where Nintendo had no input in the processor’s design.
