You may be under the assumption that Monolith Soft was already owned by Nintendo, but in fact it was “only” 96% owned by Nintendo. As of now, however, Monolith Soft is 100% owned by Nintendo. Thankfully, another Rare situation (Banjo-Kazooie, 007 Goldeneye developers) won’t be happening anytime soon with Monolith Soft.
The founders of Monolith Soft held 4% of the company but decided to sell off their stake to Nintendo for undisclosed reasons. Whatever the case, Nintendo seems to love their output, with Xenoblade Chronicles X (previously on Wii U) arriving on the Nintendo Switch March 20th, 2025 (for $59.99 USD) and all three other Xenoblade games already available on Switch.
Stay tuned to NintendoUp, as we’ll be covering all things Xenoblade and Monolith Soft.
