Like many, I enjoy Super Mario Odyssey, but it can’t hold a candle to the Wii’s Super Mario Galaxy games. Interestingly, a modder is recreating the first Super Mario Galaxy game using Odyssey’s “modern” engine (remember, Odyssey is nearly a decade old at this point, so it’s not that modern). You can watch the results above.
The mod will add “over 400 new moons/power stars to collect” and contain “all 42 galaxies” from the Mario Galaxy game. You’ll also return to the Comet Observatory in the “new overworld system.”
“Many new mechanics from Super Mario Galaxy – gravity-system, assembly blocks, Cataquacks, Flipswitch panels, tox boxes, and so much more…”
Super Mario Galaxy is available on Wii and the Wii U virtual console, and if you were lucky enough to grab it before Nintendo foolishly removed it from the eShop and stores, the Super Mario 3D All-Stars collection on Nintendo Switch (seriously, why was that a limited-time game?).
I’m hoping for an official Super Mario Galaxy 3, because the series is in my Top 10 favorite games of all time. What about you guys?
