According to DFC Intelligence, the oldest research and advisory firm dedicated to the video game industry, the Nintendo Switch 2 will significantly outperform competing consoles from Sony and Microsoft. They’re predicting the Switch 2 will sell around 15-17 million units next year, and 80 million units by 2028.
They also predict the PS6 and next Xbox will likely release by 2028, but “only one will be successful.” I’m sure we can assume it’s Microsoft they think will be third place, as is the case these days. DFC Intelligence thinks that the struggling third-place console will significantly underperform compared to the Switch 2 (sounds right).
DFC also predicts that the population of game players worldwide will grow from 3.8 billion to 4 billion by 2027, which is roughly half the world’s population. They believe GTA VI and Switch 2 will help grow the gaming population in 2025, and it’s hard to argue with that.
The Nintendo Switch 2 is expected to be unveiled next month, and to soon be followed by a Mario Kart 9 reveal and potential bundle.
What do you think? Will the Switch 2 be the “console market leader” as DFC Intelligence forecasts? Let me know in the comments below.
