The team behind the PC ports of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Majora’s Mask, and Super Mario 64, have done a barrel roll with their new project. This time around, Star Fox 64 is natively available to play on PC, which brings with it numerous benefits over “simple” emulation.

Users can also take advantage of higher frame rates and other enhancements. In addition, the port will enable modders to add all sorts of crazy stuff to the game.
Harbour Masters (formerly known as Ship of Harkinian) reverse-engineered the game’s original code so that the project doesn’t use any copyrighted material, which in theory makes this PC port legal. I’m sure a good lawyer could argue with that, but there’s a chance Nintendo doesn’t care enough to find out the legal limits.
You’ll need to provide your own legal N64 ROM to play this PC port. Alternatively, you can play the original Star Fox 64 on Nintendo Switch Online on your Nintendo Switch or the 3D remake on your Nintendo 3DS.
Star Fox hasn’t had a new entry since 2016’s Star Fox Zero on the Wii U almost ten years ago. So…get on that, Nintendo.
