Masahiro Sakurai, the creator of Super Smash Bros., isn’t likely working on a new Smash game at this time. That’s because he’s in charge of the newly announced sequel to the GameCube racing game Kirby Air Ride. The trailer looks bright, cute, and fun—but it’s not Smash Bros.
Look, I want a new Smash Bros. as much as the next guy. But let’s not force Masahiro Sakurai to slave away on another game if he doesn’t want to. He’s earned the right to work on any game he wants to.
So, There’s No Smash Bros. Game for Switch 2!?
Hold on there, Joey. Just because Masahiro Sakurai isn’t working on the next Smash right now, doesn’t mean nobody is. It’s quite possible another developer is in charge of the next Smash Bros. There’s no way Nintendo would skip an installment on any Nintendo console, and despite Sakurai being an important person, Nintendo will find somebody else if he won’t direct the project.
In fact, it’s likely another developer is already working on Smash.
Oh…When Will We Get Smash Bros.?
How should I know?
Well, Screw You, Then!
Alright. Fine. If I had to guess, we’ll probably get the next Smash in late 2027. Happy now?
Yes.
Great.
